The Ai BC-4F 4 Ft Class II Type A2 Biosafety Cabinet is a NSF/ANSI 49 certified biological safety cabinet designed to provide maximum protection for laboratory personnel, sensitive samples, and the surrounding environment when working with potentially infectious biological materials.

A biosafety cabinet (BSC)—also known as a biological safety cabinet or microbiological safety cabinet—is an enclosed, ventilated laboratory workstation used for safely handling pathogens that require a defined biosafety level.

This Class II Type A2 biosafety cabinet uses dual HEPA filtration and controlled laminar airflow to maintain a sterile working environment while preventing contaminated air from escaping into the laboratory. It is ideal for laboratories performing microbiology, virology, pharmaceutical research, clinical diagnostics, and COVID-19 specimen handling.

Unlike laminar flow clean benches that blow unfiltered air toward the user, the Ai biosafety cabinet HEPA-filters all exhaust air, capturing bacteria, viruses, and other harmful particles before the air exits the cabinet.

What Is a Class II Type A2 Biosafety Cabinet?

A Class II biosafety cabinet provides protection for:

Air enters through the front opening, creating an inward airflow barrier that prevents contaminated air from escaping.

Inside the cabinet:

  • 70% of air is recirculated through HEPA filters

Important Operating Procedure

Before Use

  1. Fully close the front glass panel.

  2. Activate the UV light for 30 minutes to disinfect the chamber.

  3. Leave the room during UV sterilization.

  4. Raise the glass panel to the recommended working height.

  5. Turn on airflow circulation for 10 minutes before beginning work.

After Use

  1. Fully close the glass panel.

  2. Turn on UV light for 30 minutes to complete decontamination.

Biosafety Cabinet Safety Guidelines

For safe operation:

• Do not use flammable or explosive materials
• Avoid volatile chemicals that may damage HEPA filters
• Do not introduce toxic chemical vapors into the cabinet
• Open flames are prohibited because they disrupt airflow
• Use ≤10 mL disinfectant (70% alcohol) if needed

Recommended disinfectants:

  • Sodium hypochlorite (bleach)

  • Iodophors (Wescodyne)

  • Phenolics (Hilphene, Vespene)

  • Quaternary ammonium compounds (Conflikt, Endbac II)
